Mexico City Launches Meetings Tourism Certification

The Mexico City Secretary of Tourism and the Mexico City Convention Bureau have kicked off a Meetings Tourism Professional Certification, to be held in the city's Chamber of Commerce. 

 
The program consists of six segments addressing topics such as destination marketing strategies, sustainability and green events, product development and sales techniques. 
 
The event was inaugurated by Carlos Collado, the Director or the Mexico City CVB. Mexico City Secretary of Tourism Carlos Mackinlay, who previously helmed the CVB, spoke of the importance of meetings tourism to the destination. 
 
"For the last four years, [our] strategy has been to use all of the tools at our disposal-- relationships with associations, our links with the mdedia-- to attract international congresses and conventions to the city." 
 
Mackinlay spoke of the city's steady advance in the ICAA rankings, moving from 64 to 39 in the world since 2007. Mexico City is the fifth most active city in the Americas for international events, falling below Buenos Aires, Río de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Vancouve. It is also the leading city in Mexico, significantly above Cancun, Guadalajara, and Monterrey. 
 
The course is being presented by Tony Yarto and Eduardo Yarto, executives at the companies Mexico Experience and Turespacio.
