Mexico City Vies for Gay Tourism

Mexico City-based companies are seeking ways to attract gay tourism to the city. On June 12th, the Association of Latin American Wedding Consulants (a Asociación de Consultores de Bodas y Eventos de Latinoamérica) will hold the Gay Event Marketing Workshop, a seminar for tourism enteprises interested in attracting more gay clients.

According to Mexico City Secretary of Tourism Carlos Mackinlay, since enacting a same-sex marriage law in  2010, Mexico City has conducted 1,503 same-sex weddings.

On average LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) tourists in Mexico City spend more than twice as much as their heterosexual counterpart ($1,500 USD on average per visit, as opposed to $600 USD per visit).

Mexico City's same-sex marriage law gives the capital city a competitive advantage over the rest of Mexico and other Latin American countries, said Mackinlay.

The Gay Event Marketing Workshop will be held at the JW Mariott Polanco.
