New York Tourism Opens Office in Mexico City

New York City's Tourism authority, NYC & Company, has opened a representative office in Mexico City, with the goal of attracting more Mexican tourists to the Big Apple. Mexican tourism  to New York has increased more than 100% in the last seven years. 376,000 Mexicans visited New York in 2011, versus 192,000 in 2005.

NYC and Company has invested "millions of dollars" in the new office, located on Paseo de la Reforma, and anticipates that it will have an impact of hundreds of millions of dollars for the New York economy. The office will act as a liaison for travel agents, industry professionals and the media.

The new office is a part of a larger partnership between Mexico City and New York, designed to "share experiences, best practices, and opportunities for collaboration" between the two cities, said Mexico City Mayor Miguel Angel Mancera.

" New York City and Mexico City are both world-class cities that share so much in common—there could not be a better time for us to expand our investment in this key market, and invite more Mexican travelers to discover the unique energy, diversity and excitement of our City,” said New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg.
